A whole-home renovation is less a construction project than a long sequence of decisions. The quality of the result is usually determined months before demolition — in how carefully scope, budget, and selections are defined.
Define scope before cost
Cost conversations are only meaningful once scope is real. Establishing which rooms are structural, which are cosmetic, and which are simply aspirational allows an accurate budget rather than an optimistic one.
Resolve selections early
Stone, cabinetry, windows, and specialty fixtures carry the longest lead times. Confirming them during design — not during construction — protects both the schedule and the design intent.
Plan for how you will live
Whether you remain in residence or relocate changes sequencing, dust control, and duration. It is a decision worth making early, with clear expectations on both sides.
